My daughter just turned 13 years old this month. Can she be a part of the Asante Children's Theatre?

Most definitely. She may audition for the Academy, which is the component of ACT for youth 9 to 21 years. The Academy offers a series of skill-building workshops that are designed to prepare the young artists to audition, and ultimately participate, in ACT season productions. Academy members meet weekly in space provided courtesy of the Christamore House Multi-Service Center located 502 North Tremont on the westside of Indianapolis, IN. Workshops are held every Monday and Wednesday Academy workshops from 6 PM to 8PM and Saturdays from 10AM - 2PM. Additional skill development workshops are added as needed.  For more information about enrolling your child(ren) in the ACT Academy, please contact the Artistic Director at 317-297-0020 or by email at dasantewoman@yahoo.com .

Does she have to audition?

Yes, interested individuals must prepare and perform a 1 to 2 minute memorized monologue, a 1 to 2 minute dance routine and perform a song to be sung acapella, which is without musical accompaniment. Auditions are held before a three- to five-member panel of impartial observers. These observers rate an actor's performances based upon preparedness, enthusiasm, diction, projection, agility and creativity. Audition material presented must contain no profanity. There is no cost to audition. Acceptance into the ACT Academy does not automatically guarantee the participant a role in any of the three main stage productions by the Asante Children's Theatre.
