Do I have to audition for the theatre?

Auditions are not required for ACT Prep. However, in order to participate in the ACT Academy, young artists are asked to audition. Auditions will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2008.

Interested individuals must prepare and perform a 1 to 2 minute memorized monologue, a 1 to 2 minute dance routine and perform a song to be sung acapella, which is without musical accompaniment. Auditions are held before a three- to five-member panel of impartial observers.

These observers rate an actor's performances based upon preparedness, enthusiasm, diction, projection, agility and creativity. Audition material presented must contain no profanity. There is no cost to audition. Acceptance into the ACT Academy does not automatically guarantee the participant a role in any of the three main stage productions by the Asante Children's Theatre.

For more information about enrolling your child(ren) in the ACT Academy, OR to make your audition appointment for the ACT Academy, please contact Ms. Deborah Asante, Artistic Director at 317-297-0020 or by email to dasantewoman@yahoo.org.

Auditions for the Asante Touring Company are  required as well. Touring Company participants must be at least 18 years of age, and high school graduate or equivalent and may be alumni of the Asante Children's Theatre Academy or not.

Anyone interested in participating in or knowing more about the Asante Touring Company may contact Ms. Deborah Asante, Artistic Director, by phone at 317-297-0020, by e-mail at dasantewoman@yahoo.org or by mail at PO Box 22344, Indianapolis, IN 46222-0344.
