How has Asante Children's Theatre positively impacted the community and/or its participants?

The dictionary defines success as the achievement of desired aim; the achievement of something planned or attempted. Asante Children's Theatre (ACT) has the unique ability to unearth talent that lies buried within young persons. The Asante Children's Theatre provides a caring environment, structure and direction to youth who may not realize their potential. Since 1990, this environment has fostered the confidence the youth needs to venture into the unknown and achieve their desired aims or dreams. Since 1990, the Asante Children's Theatre has had over 4,000 youth participate in its performing arts program.

On average, ACT serves 40-45 people. In the year 2000, we began formally tracking "program accomplishments". There have been 44 graduating seniors, of which 30 enrolled into college, 7 pursued military careers and the remaining 7 became contributing members of the community through employment. Of the 30 graduates, 11 are majoring in the performing arts. Sixteen alumni presently participate in the Asante Touring Company. During our thirteen years of operation, only one participant had a brush with the criminal justice system. We are proud to say he has since turned his life around and is pursuing a post-secondary degree in the performing arts.
