Do you ever need help during a production?
Yes, one of our operating principles is to foster a culture of volunteerism. The Asante Children's Theatre (ACT) is a "grass roots" performing arts organization whose success heavily relies on having a strong volunteer base. It is the key reason we have been able to sustain ourselves over the years. ACT was built on the efforts of individuals and families who believe in "giving back" to the community.

What type of help do you need?
We are always seeking folks to donate a few hours during our performances, helping with grassroots marketing, or front-of-house and back-stage tasks and assignments.  Occasionally, we need stagehands and prop assistants, a wardrobe assistant or two, and a seamstress to repair costumes.

Briefly, here are some of the jobs and relevant duties of volunteers:

Grassroots Marketeer:

Are you willing to take some flyers or postcards to your job, church, school, social event, club, etc. to promote our next production?  If so, we can surely use your help.  Please call 317-895-6712 for more information.

Concessions:
Are you good at retail sales and would like to donate a few hours of your time to Asante Children’s Theatre?  You would be responsible for selling our classic sweatshirts or t-shirts at intermission during our performances.  For a schedule of our upcoming performances, go to
http://www.asantechildrenstheatre.org/calendar.html or e-mail the Volunteer Coordinator at dlewis@asantechildrenstheatre.org.

Assessors:

Without feedback, we would not know what we do right and what we can improve.  Thus, we rely on Audience Surveys to collect feedback and demographic data.  We need Assessors at each night of performance to distribute and subsequently collect these Audience Surveys at intermission.  Could you be the one to help us obtain this information as well as help capture vital grant writing and marketing information?  If so, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at
dlewis@asantechildrenstheatre.org.

Stagehands:
Are you able to help back stage with set changes between scenes?  This job requires your attention to detail and you must be able to move at least 20 pounds of stuff in the dark!  If this is for you, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at dlewis@asantechildrenstheatre.org.

Committee Service:
So many committees, so little time!  Here is a brief list of the standing committees associated through the Board of Directors of the Asante Children’s Theatre.  Feel free to contact the Committee Chair via e-mail below.

What should I do if I'm interested in volunteering for this organization?
The safety and well-being of our youth is vital to our organization.  Thus, in furtherance of the pursuit of our mission to be a safe haven for youth, we have instituted policy requiring all volunteers to have a limited criminal background check before beginning their service period with the Asante Children’s Theatre (effective May 1, 2006).

These criminal background checks can be obtained from any local or state law enforcement agency.  A brief personal interview will be conducted by a staff person or the Volunteer Coordinator.  To expedite this process, we ask that volunteers present their CBC at the time of the interview.  We also suggest a simple, one-page Volunteer Application be completed prior to the start of the service period.

For more information about donating your time, talent and resources to the Asante Children’s Theatre, contact our Volunteer Coordinator.
